Neil Schaap, P.E., CFM, leads the Water Resources Department at PEC+, directing the water resources discipline within the firm. Responsibilities range from stormwater management design and sewer lift station oversight to Federal and State environmental permitting.
Since graduating from Georgia Tech in 2004, Neil has been involved in the design and management of stormwater BMP designs throughout the Southeast. Neil believes, “The evolution of stormwater treatment over the past 20+ years has brought many exciting and challenging opportunities for our clients,” and he continues to be directly involved in the design for both private sector and municipal clients.
Following the historic 2009 floods, he saw a need for greater involvement in the flood plain management arena. He attended training courses through GEMA and became an ASFPM Certified Floodplain Manager. Through the years, Neil has guided clients on no-rise certifications, FEMA map revisions, and Elevation Certificates.
Neil is an active member of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals, and a graduate of the ACEC Future Leaders Program. As a proponent of civic involvement, Neil has previously volunteered for the City of Berkely Lake Planning and Zoning Commission, Gwinnett County Zoning Board of Appeals and Gwinnett Stormwater Authority. In addition to Georgia, Neil is a licensed Engineer in the states of Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas.
Neil resides in Johns Creek with his wife and three children. In his spare time, Neil enjoys fishing, kayaking, and rooting on the local sports teams.
